SONG SUMMARY
```“Now That She Is Gone” is a poignant blues-rock ballad written by Helge Rognstad and recorded for The Rise And Fall Of The Songwriter (2024). The track features Helge Rognstad on lead vocals, guitar and drum programming, Neil Murray on bass, and Scottish guitarist Liam Creedon providing the featured guitar solo.
Creedon, who had worked as Manny Charlton’s final guitar technician, recorded the solo in place of Manny, who had originally been intended to play on the track before his death in 2022. The recording therefore carries a particular connection to Charlton while remaining a standalone emotional blues-rock song.
```SYNC LICENSING & RIGHTS
```Sync context and uses:
“Now That She Is Gone” is a poignant pop-rock ballad about family bereavement and reflecting on everything a mother gave to her child — from the earliest lessons of life to the values carried into adulthood. The lyric uses direct but highly visual imagery, giving the song a strong connection to scenes depicting childhood, upbringing, family memories, growing up and the passage of time.
Its emotional focus makes it particularly suited to dramas and documentaries dealing with bereavement, family relationships, motherhood, childhood, life-changing events and personal reflection, as well as flashback or memory sequences that connect different stages of a character’s life. The song is showcasing Rognstad’s growth as a songwriter.
Aberdeen's Liam Creedon contributes the featured guitar solo, performing the guitar part originally intended for Manny Charlton, adding yet another layer of emotional significance to the recording.
PERSONNEL & PRODUCTION
```Personnel:
Helge Rognstad – vocals, rhythm guitars, drum programming
Liam Creedon - guitar solo
Neil Murray - bass
Recorded at:
The Fluffy Jackets Sound Studio, Bergen, Norway, except vocals - recorded at Westpoint Studios in Acton/London, engineered by Shane Shanahan; guitar solo recorded at Liam Creedon's home studio in Aberdeen, Scotland.
Instrumentation and recording equipment used:
Male lead vocals, acoustic guitars, electric guitars, bass and drums.
Lead vocals were performed by Helge Rognstad and recorded at Westpoint Studios in Acton, London, on April 3, 2023. Recorded through a Sony C800 microphone, Neve 1081 Mic-Pre-Amp, Un-Fairchild Compressor, Michelangelo EQ (by Hendy Amps), MAAG EQ 500 series recorded through an SSL G-Series mixing desk. Shane Shanahan also added the vocal effects, including Valhalla Vintage Verb, Seventh Heaven, and Echoboy, to enhance the final vocal track (the lead vocals are mixed using the dry and wet signals).
Helge plays all rhythm guitars on this track, including a Fender Telecaster Custom Shop 1950’s reissue, played on the bridge pickup through a Fender Princeton setting (342243), and a Hall of Fame Reverb stomp pedal (setting: Church-delay, Level: 60, Decay: 40, Tone: 75). The rhythm guitar also employs a Boss distortion pedal (settings: L to R = 40, 25, 40). This guitar was recorded with a Shure SM57 mic close-up, routed through a Neve 1073 pre-amp into the UAD Luna DAW.
Liam Creedon recorded the guitar solo in Aberdeen Scotland and the solo is actually made up of two recordings (panned L-R) using the same set-up, recording with a 1982 Japanese Squier E series with Tonerider Surfari pickups through a number of pedals; Cornish P2 and G2, a Boss MZ-2, a prototype FX MadCap pedal, a 1974 modded Crybaby, a Rocktron Banshee Talkbox, an analog audio switcher, and a Boss GT-8 as a MIDI controller.
The signal chain has a stereo output to two Fender Bassman clones, both close mic'ed before the signal was treated with EQ in his Cubase DAW. Helge Rognstad programmed the drums - using a Gretsch Purple DV kit - using the BFD3 drum plugin in the UAD Luna DAW; although programmed - the drums are recorded by a human being - who records the sounds in the BFD3 plugin. Neil Murray performs the bass on this song, using his short-scale Nordstrand Acinonyx bass, a modernized version of an obscure ‘60s model.
He opted for flatwound strings and exclusively used the neck pickup on this recording. The bass was recorded directly into an Audient iD14 interface and then into Logic. Neil used tweaked plugins (all Logic plugins) with his preferred settings, including some compression, a clean amp setting, and minor EQ adjustments.
Note of interest: Following Neil Murray's decision to retire from recording and live performance, the Nordstrand bass has since been acquired by Helge Rognstad and is residing in The Fluffy Jackets' sound studio where it continues to be used on recordings.

NOW THAT SHE IS GONE - Official Lyrics
```
I see your tears fall to the ground
Like the rain is coming down
And the pain cuts like a knife
Now that she is gone
She taught you to live, and how to forgive
How to walk, and talk that talk
And you keep busy, avoid going crazy
Now that she is gone
How come you see her face in each crowd
If she is gone and left this town
How can it be that you still feel
She is still around
In sickness and health, she made you proud
As you walked the earth on the same cloud
Now you are drifting, in stormy water
Now that she is gone
